The Guadalupe: Read the River Before You Go

The Guadalupe: Read the River Before You Go

By Tony DePass · Local field note · Texas edition

“Do the Guadalupe” is not a plan. The river changes character by reach, season, flow and access.

Decide what you mean by river day.

Tubing with shuttle logistics is different from paddling, swimming at a park, fishing or simply sitting beside the water. Choose one experience first and confirm current access and conditions that morning.

For a quieter river day.

Guadalupe River State Park offers four miles of river frontage plus hiking and paddling opportunities, but it can reach capacity; reservations are often wise during busy periods.
